Ajapa Japa

  1. Sit in any comfortable meditative posture.
  2. Ensure that spine is straight.
  3. Head neck and shoulders in one straight line.
  4. Place the hands on the knees. Fingers in jnana mudra.
  5. Gently close the eyes.
  6. Become aware of the body. And the posture of meditation.
  7. Internally mentally see the position of the body from top of the head to the toes.
  8. Experience the body posture becoming study and still.
  9. And relax the whole body completely.
  10. There should be nothing tight.
  11. The muscles should be relaxed.
  12. Shoulders relaxed.
  13. No tension in any part of the body.
  14. Completely relax the whole body in the sitting posture Total awareness of the body and of physical Stillness.
  15. Switch the awareness from the body to the breath.
  16. Breathe in deeply and chant the Mantra ‘om’ three times with me.
  17. Feel the vibrations of the om chanting.
  18. Focus on the Stillness of the body.
  19. Awareness of the body and of Stillness.
  20. Awareness of the vibrations of om inside the body.
  21. Observe the natural breath.
  22. Practice slow and deep breathing.
  23. As you breathe in and as you breathe out.
  24. As you breathe in and out feel the breath moving through the throat.
  25. Concentrate on the Rhythm make breathing in the throat.
  26. Now I’m aware of the rhythmic breathing in the throat and you will feel the steadiness of mind and body.
  27. Observe the breath as it flows in the throat.
  28. Now become aware of the breath moving from the navel to the throat.
  29. Bring your awareness to the navel, inhale slowly in a straight line from the navel, from the navel up to the throat.
  30. Then exhale slowly in a straight line from the throat down to the navel.
  31. The breath is slow long and deep.
  32. Go on breathing up and down from Navel to throat, throughout the navel until the breath moves along this fixed pathway easily without conscious effort.
  33. Watch the movement carefully without missing a single breath.
  34. Develop awareness of the psychic passage between the navel and the throat at the front of the body. Visualize the psychic Passage. See the psychic passage in front of the body, between Navel and throat as long thin transparent, too.
  35. The long thin transparent tube is connecting the navel with the throat.
  36. This tube is hollow inside and open at both ends.
  37. Visualize this luminous transparent tube.
  38. Move the awareness with breath up and down along the surface of the tube.
  39. Move the awareness up and down along the outside surface of the tube.
  40. Move the awareness up and down along the outside surface of the tube.
  41. Try to see the entire length of the tube clearly.
  42. Take your awareness inside the tube take your awareness inside the tube and move it up and down the center visualizing the tube from within.
  43. The tube is the psychic passage located in the front part of the body between navel and throat.
  44. The tube is long thin transparent and luminous tube.
  45. Feel the breath moving inside the frontal passage between the navel and the throat.
  46. While inhaling the breath ascends from the navel to the throat while exhaling the breath descends from the throat to the navel.
  47. With the ascend and the Descend of each breath try to visualize clearly the inside of the psychic Passage.
  48. As the breath moves through the passage the awareness also moves.
  49. You are not only observing the movement of breath in the frontal passage. But also the awareness is moving with the breath up and down up and down. From throat to navel, navel to throat.
  50. Develop the feeling of two distinct forces the breath and the Consciousness moving together inside the psychic pathway.
  51. Intensify awareness of the breath and Consciousness moving together inside the psychic Passage.
  52. Feel the flow of breath and Consciousness ascending and descending together through the psychic Passage.
  53. Gradually become aware of the third Force, the pranic force, the pranic energy, which is moving together with the breadth and the consciousness.
  54. The breath moves in the form of wind or air while Prana moves in the form of energy and Consciousness moves in form of awareness.
  55. Observe the movement of breath Consciousness and Prana Shakti together in the passage between the navel and the throat.
  56. It is this flow of Prana or energy between the navel and the throat which creates the psychic Passage.
  57. Complete awareness of the breath.
  58. The movement of Prana creates the psychic passage in the same way that flowing water creates a stream.
  59. Observe The Prana moving with the breath inside the passage visualize the thin sparkling stream of energy of Prana which flows upward from the navel to the throat as you breathe in and downward from the throat to the navel as you breathe out. In the beginning you may need to use your imagination to experience this movement, but with practice you will be able to spontaneously fail a powerful current of energy flowing up and down the psychic Passage.
  60. Be aware of the movement of Prana Shakti with each incoming and outgoing breath.
  61. Now listen carefully to the subtle sound of each breath as it moves up and down the frontal Passage.

  63. The inherent sound of the breath is the Mantra. So ham.
  64. As you’re breathing in hear the Mantra soham as you breath out here the Mantra soham. This soham Mantra is not separate from the breath.
  65. You are not repeating it verbally, it is already going on within the breathe each time you breathe.
  66. You must become aware of it. That’s all.
  67. Listen carefully while inhaling.
  68. Try to hear the sound so.
  69. While exhaling hear the sound ‘ham’.
  70. Concentrate on the process of breathing together with the Mantra of the breath soham.
  71. As the breath moves the sound moves.
  72. Be aware of the movement of the breath and the vibration of the soham Mantra inside the frontal Passage.
  73. Concentrate your entire awareness inside the psychic Passage. There should be no other thought no other experience.
  74. Try to feel try to experience the entire breathing process taking place inside the psychic passage only.
  75. As the breath becomes more and more subtle the vibration of the Mantra also becomes more subtle.
  76. Gradually, you will experience will perceive this process as a psychic movement within the frontal Passage.
  77. The dimension of the Consciousness will change as the Mind becomes totally absorbed in the psychic movement of the breath and the mantra
  78. Nothing else except awareness of the psychic passage the breath the mantra.
  79. Mantra soham with every inhalation with every exhalation is a spontaneous ongoing continuous process.
  80. Inhalation ‘so’ Exhalation ‘ham’.
  81. Inhalation, ‘so’
  82. Exhalation ‘ham’.
  83. Continue with this practice for a few moments.
  84. Total awareness.
  85. And while the Mantra is being repeated, while the Mantra is being experienced with the breath.
  86. Also observe the physical Stillness.
  87. The navel is the center of Manipur chakra. The throat the center of Vishuddhi chakra.
  88. The psychic Passage in long thin transparent and luminous tube extends from Manipur chakra the navel to vishuddhi chakra the throat.
  89. Within this tube within the psychic passage the breath. The Prana the Consciousness move together in unison with the frequency of the Mantra ‘so ham’. The inherent sound of inhalation is ‘so’. The inherent sound of exhalation is ‘ham’.
  90. Continue with this practice.
  91. Do not sleep.
  92. Deep and the awareness and feel the movement of Prana Shakti feel the movement of Consciousness feel the movement of breath feel the movement of Mantra in the psychic passage between manipura and vishuddhi chakra.
  93. Now, get ready to end the practice.
  94. Withdraw your awareness from the psychic passage and the mantra.
  95. Once again become aware of the normal breathing process.
  96. Feel breath in the throat as you breathe in and breathe out.
  97. Feel the breath moving in the throat at the time of inhalation and exhalation late.
  98. Again, become aware of the physical body, which is sitting in the meditative posture.
  99. Feel the whole body head to toe.
  100. Be aware of the weight of the body against the floor.
  101. Become aware of the hands resting on the knees.
  102. Externalize the mind.
  103. Breathe in deeply and chant ‘om’ three times with me all together.
  104. Externalize the mind.
  105. Gradually move the fingers.
  106. Move the shoulders.
  107. The feet the legs.
  108. Gently bring the hands together rub the palms of the hands against each other and then Place the Palms on top of the closed eyes and slowly open your eyes.
  109. The practice of ajapa japa is over.
  110. Hari Om tat sat.
